Lamb of God’s Chris Adler prefers a cranked, dry snare. That’s why he chose a 12-inch all-wood shell for the Mapex Warbird, a revved-up version of his signature Black Panther snare. Though small in stature, there’s nothing pint-sized about the Warbird’s cutting potential. This 100% walnut snare delivers a quick bite that positively slays for genres ranging from gospel to metal. Its etched walnut exterior features artwork by artist K3N (née Ken Adams) of LOG fame, while Mapex’s SONIClear bearing edges — complete with Evans heads and Mapex Sonic Saver Hoops — give the Warbird a controlled attack and formidable bottom end. You also get a Trick Multi-Stage throw off and premium Puresound snare wires for endless options for snare response. Whether you’re looking to replace your main snare with something fiercer, or you want to add a killer side snare to your stage kit, drummers stand by the Chris Adler Mapex Warbird Black Panther Design Lab snare.
“It’s the perfect drum for me.” — Chris Adler
Chris has been touring with his Mapex Warbird snare for years and he loves it. “I like to tune it up and get a real biting sound,” he says. “But it tunes down just as well.” The Warbird’s all-walnut shell supplies body and balance, with a nice crack and commendable punch, especially under a close mic — that is, if you even need one. “I got notes from a sound engineer [after a show we did in Japan]. Even in an arena of 25,000 people that night, he didn’t need to use the snare microphone. It’s very loud.”
Hoops that bridge the gap between flanged and cast
Mapex Sonic Savers produce a tone of their own, combining with the crack of the Warbird’s walnut shell for a round, powerful rimshot. At a pound and a half each, it should also come as no surprise that Sonic Saver hoops are built to take a beating without warping or falling apart.
Artwork by K3N
Lamb of God veterans will recognize K3N as the album art artist behind the band’s last several albums. K3N’s beautifully etched eagle speaks both to the elegance of the Mapex Warbird and to Adler’s personal life. “It reminds me of a gorgeous piece of furniture. It’s really quite a piece of art,” says Chris, whose name means eagle in German.
