With the Ibanez RG8870 SDE J.Custom LTD Electric Guitar – Sodalite, Ibanez presents a refreshing interpretation of the noble j.custom RG from Japanese production. While large resonance chambers in the alder body significantly reduce the weight of the guitar and at the same time characterize the sound with a pleasantly airy timbre, the well-known design with wide Cutaways and fast “RG j.custom Super Wizard” neck creates excellent conditions for the easy implementation of experienced playing techniques. Thanks to the flexible HSH pickup setup with DiMarzio pickups, the j.custom RG8870 electric guitar impresses on the guitar amp with a wide range of sounds, from vintage-inspired cleans and Overdrive to modern high-gain distortion. Alder body with resonance chambers
When designing the Axe Design Lab j.custom RG8870, Ibanez paid particular attention not only to the excellent handling of the guitar, but also to a particularly lively and resonant sound. Large resonance chambers not only significantly reduce the weight of the alder body so that the guitar does not pull on the shoulder even after long gigs, but also color the sound with an airy response and subtle acoustic timbre. The five-piece maple and wenge neck promises excellent playing characteristics thanks to the flat “RG j.custom Super Wizard” profile with just 17 mm of wood under the first fret, so that even complex playing techniques can be performed with ease. In addition to the intensely grained curly maple top in premium AAA quality, the elaborate tree-of-life inlay of the Macassar ebony fingerboard underlines the elegant look of the electric guitar.
Flexible sounds thanks to DiMarzio pickups
On the guitar amplifier, the Axe Design Lab j.custom RG8870 impresses thanks to the HSH setup realized with DiMarzio pickups and the flexible circuit with a wide sound spectrum, ranging from classic vintage sounds to modern tones. The DiMarzio PAF 36th Anniversary humbucker in the neck position is clearly based on its golden-era ancestor of the same name and impresses with an authentic vintage sound that can be shaped by the touch alone thanks to its excellent dynamics. In the bridge position, the powerful DiMarzio The Tone Zone humbucker provides juicy drive and distortion sounds with razor-sharp articulation and enormous assertiveness, while the True Velvet single coil in the middle position contributes bell-like timbres. In addition to the 5-way blade switch, which selects the pickup in the combinations typical for Ibanez, and the general volume and tone pots, the j.custom RG8870 guitar offers an additional mini-switch, which expands the repertoire by splitting the neck and bridge humbuckers and characterful single-coil sounds.
Lo-Pro Edge Tremolo and Gotoh tuner
Last but not least, Ibanez completes the Axe Design Lab j.custom RG8870-SDE Sodalite with professional hardware that is perfectly matched to the guitar and impresses with its unrestricted reliability even after long tours or recording sessions. The bridge naturally uses a double-locking tremolo in the form of the tried-and-tested Ibanez Lo-Pro system , which responds smoothly to movements of the whammy bar and keeps the guitar securely in tune even after the heaviest dive bombs and squeals. While Gotoh tuners on the headstock bring the guitar quickly and precisely into the correct tuning, Gotoh strap locks hold it securely on the guitar strap even during hot shows.
