Behringer TORO Analog Bass Synthesizer
Since the 1970s, the iconic sounds of a singular bass synth have maintained a unique stranglehold on the public musical imagination. Now, thanks to the meticulous engineering, the Behringer TORO Analog Bass Synthesizer charges forth with the vaunted voltages of luscious lows and the distinctive character of its predecessor while adding a few contemporary accommodations. Its elegant design serves up heaps of uncompromising lows without a complicated interface. Precision-crafted circuitry ensures everything from the distinctive lowpass ladder filter to the furthest reaches of its 5-octave range is easily controlled.
Classic heart, modern magic
A meticulously designed, all-analog signal path forms the heart of TORO, providing faithful, era-accurate sonics with the VCA, VCF, and VCO designs. Whether you’re after arena-rocking basses, harmonized intervals, or searing leads, TORO’s dual-VCO architecture spans a 5-octave range, unwavering in its aural integrity. With such a focus on tone crafting, there are only four presets: Toro, Tuba, Bass, and Variable, each with its own buttons for quick selection. Otherwise, 23 control points are available to hone your sound. Moreover, with the Poly Chain function, you can link up to 16 TORO units together: up to 32 voices of polyphony in a chorus of bass synths.
Shaping with mid-century finesse
TORO doesn’t just look the part of its aspirational era. The analog circuitry lets you engage the iconic lowpass ladder filter that has eluded synthesists for decades, resulting in smooth, full, rich tones with cutoff and emphasis controls for fine-tuning. Glide can be adjusted with its own slider or toggled entirely from a dedicated button, alongside octave and decay controls. If you’ve noticed the CV inputs for pitch and filter values, as well as the gate input, then know that Eurorack compatibility doesn’t stop there. The flexible construction means the synth can be removed from its housing entirely, mounted into any studio or performance rig, and instantly accessible from almost any controller via 5-pin MIDI input.
